MARCUS, THE STORY SO FAR….

It seems a long time ago that Marcus handed his first demo cd to KOOLwaters captain and Slinky legend Marc Vedo. This was also the week Marcus won the regional DJ competition @ Sloanes, Taunton, oh and by the way this was the week Marcus bought his first pair of decks or even touched a record for the first time. Not a bad first week in a DJ’s career by any standard.

The demo was enough to secure Marcus a residency @ KOOLwaters, a place he has held for over two years and still does to this day. (For more info visit www.koolwaters.com)

Mixmag were also impressed with him from an early stage and noted Marcus and fellow resident Matt Thorne as; “Two of the best up and coming DJ’s in the south west”, in the June 02 edition.

Since becoming resident at KOOLwaters the club has been voted second best new club in the UK by Mixmag and has had countless club of the month accolades from Muzik and Ministry. It has also spread all over the world, hosting tours in, Turkey, China, Russia and even Bosnia would you believe!

Marcus has played at countless venues in the UK and some excellent club nights as listed above, playing alongside some of the worlds best DJ’s, including, well, pretty much everyone over the past three years! (Pete Tong, Judge Jules, Seb Fontaine, Lottie just off the top of my head, too many to list).

This summer Marcus will also be spreading his wings. As on top of his hectic UK schedule he will be playing in some huge clubbing hotspots around the world including, in the Ukraine and Ibiza.

“But what does he play”, I hear you cry!

After developing his skills and really learning the ropes through playing deep progressive house or warm up trance, Marcus’ musical style has evolved and matured. He now plays what he would class as, chunky, cool, house music, sometimes a bit tribal, sometimes a bit dark, but always class.

Besides Marcus’ place with KOOLwaters he also holds down a residency with its kid sister night, “Something Fruity” a damn fine funky house night based in Bristol. He has supported DJ’s such as the legendary Danny Rampling, Junior Jack, Kid Crème, Tim Deluxe, Smokin Jo, Farley “Jackmaster” Funk, Lottie, Yousef, and Jazzy m to name a few. This night was also Pete Tong’s club of the week on his essential selection April 03.

This leads us on to Marcus’ own night; Housework. This new venture has exploded on to the scene, selling out at each of its events in his hometown of Taunton. Run with Matt Thorne the boys like to concentrate on the up and coming stars like themselves at Housework such as James Algate (Godskitchen), Rebekah (Dusted), Mr Pink, and a host of other starlets including Craig Bartlett of L’America.

L’America is known as the biggest and most successful funky house orientated night in the south west and Wales and since the success of Housework the two nights have collaborated on several excellent events in both Taunton and Cardiff.

Housework tour nights have blown up in the UK and abroad with tours planned in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Kiev, Moscow and Warsaw all in 2004. UK Housework tours have taken place in the back rooms @ Slinky, Tranz@ction, L’America, KOOLwaters and Naughty but Nice.

Now onto something a little different, Vibe 101fm (formerly Galaxy 101fm) has become a new platform for Marcus’ to showcase not only his outstanding DJ skills but also his production material (we’ll move onto that in a minute). After playing live on the air several times on Lisa Kelly’s show to over 50,000 listeners he is now doing a monthly hot mix on Paul Conroy’s Friday night show at the same station.

Under his production guise of bobkat (which by the way also includes Matt Thorne) along with The Codebreakers (Lee Hallet from The Conductor and the cowboy of Serious records fame) the boys have recently finished several tracks which are gaining amazing feedback from all corners of the music scene. “Looking good, good looking” (their debut track) did the rounds at this years Miami music conference, thanks to play’s of an exclusive copy given to Ministry FM’s Deli G.

Paul Conroy of Vibe 101FM had this to say about the track:

“10/10. Funky as f*ck Tenaglia style floor filler, reaction has been wicked, big rooms sounds and an awesome bassline!” - He added about Marcus and Matt Thorne:

“These two are the best up and coming DJ’s in the south west, look out for them they are going to be huge” 27/2/04

Two of Marcus’ tunes have already been included on the recent “Wella Headgames” promotional cd, these were, the aforementioned, “Looking good, good looking” and “Max”, named after Marcus’ baby nephew (aaaaaaahhhh).

Despite all this stuff that you have probably read a million times before its Marcus’ pure love of DJ-ing and playing to the crowd and being one of them that makes him so much fun to see and hear. His groovy, happy style of overweight house music always delights. All these credentials count for nothing however if you can’t deliver to an eager crowd of anything from 10 to 10,000 and believe me, like a postman Marcus always delivers!!!
